The facelift is one of the most common procedures done in the field of cosmetic surgery. Of course, no one wants to look older as they age; that’s why more and more people desire to eliminate the fine lines and wrinkles that appear on their faces as they go through the normal aging process.
Here at our Newport Beach plastic surgery practice, Dr. Ip helps patients who feel uncomfortable with their saggy and wrinkly appearance by performing a facelift. As with any procedure, you have to be aware of what happens right after your facelift.
What happens after your Facelift?
Your face may be wrapped loosely with bandages in order to minimize the occurrence of swelling and bruising. The surgery will not cause much discomfort; however, your doctor may still prescribe you with pain medications to counter any discomfort after surgery. Also, expect some numbness in your skin for a few weeks or months.
How will I take care of myself?
For a couple of days after a facelift, you may need to sleep on multiple pillows to keep your face from swelling. Your bandages may be removed in about one to five days.
A few days after the procedure, you may be advised to avoid:
-
Taking certain medications such as ibuprofen, aspirin, and NSAIDs.
-
Smoking or exposing yourself to secondhand smoke.
-
Doing activities that involve bending, lifting, or straining.
