Do you have those areas of fat that are very determined? No matter what you do — exercise like an Olympian in training, or diet like Richard Simmons after 13 double lattes — the fat remains. Short of a hunger strike, most people have certain areas on their body that have a little excess fat. Liposuction with Dr. Ip can get rid of it.
First things first, however. Liposuction is not for overweight people. It is not a weight-loss procedure. Dr. Ip performs liposuction on patients who are basically at a stable weight, usually no more than 10% above their ideal body weight.
Three liposuction methods
Dr. Ip utilizes three different liposuction techniques, depending on your individual situation.
Tumescent liposuction
In tumescent liposuction, a sterile saline solution that also contains the anesthetic lidocaine is injected into the area requiring the fat removal. The saltwater helps loosen the fat molecules and the lidocaine keeps the patient more comfortable. Also, adrenaline is usually included in the injection to limit the blood loss. Once the saline is injected, Dr. Ip makes small incisions and inserts the cannula to suction out the fat and excess fluids.
Power-assisted liposuction
Power-assisted liposuction is performed using a special cannula that uses tiny, rapid vibrations to break up the fat cells. The cannula is moved back and forth to further break up the fat, which is then suctioned out. Power-assisted liposuction is more precise, especially on smaller areas.
Ultrasound-assisted liposuction
In this method, Dr. Ip injects the area and then inserts an ultrasonic rod that emits ultrasonic energy into the target area. This energy helps to break up and liquefy the fat, which is then suctioned out with a cannula.
